About Our House

If you are reading this site, chances are you are in the market for a second home.  I am excited to tell you about this home new listing at 10 Drummer Trail in Laconia, NH.  Please use this site as reference and a gauge to judge all other homes by.  Once you understand what we have done and how we have done it, you will find that this is a one of kind piece of property.  I had many goals in setting up this website.  One being to sell my home. Two to help educate and promote these outstanding technologies we used that are available today, but are underutilized.  And third, to promote the trades that were involved with my project.

Think about this, if everyone used the products I used in building my home, how much better off we would be as a country and how much better it would be for our environment?

Before you start, I would like to ask three quick questions.

They said it could not be done. We heard it over and over again that the money we are investing in insulation and our HVAC equipment was a waste of time and that the performance we were trying to achieve could not be done. We did not want to burn fossil fuels for our heating or hot water needs. We all know that gas and oil will never go back down in costs, high prices are here to stay. I was bound and determine to hire the best and brightest to help me set a goal, formulate a plan and execute that plan. I am trilled to say “Mission Accomplished”. I will give you the quick numbers and then delve into the facts more deeply through out this site. We condition, meaning heat and cool including hot water for a family of 5 over 7,200+ square feet for under $1,900/year. Let me repeat this! We condition, meaning heat and cool including hot water for a family of 5 over 7,200+ square feet for under $1,900/year. You are probably scratching you heat in disbelief. Take your time, let these numbers sink it. Compare these numbers to your current house and see what you come up with. I will be happy to tell you how we did it. I believe this is one of the most energy efficient homes in the Lakes Region, if not the state of NH. Throughout my research in building an enery efficient home, of all of the things I have discovered, two main themes were apparent, one, you need to stop air infilitration and second you need a high efficiency HVAC heating and cooling system. We designed the home, but enlisted the help of two companies in these critical areas. One was Nicherson & Remick out of Portsmouth, NH and the other was Water & Energy out of Hampstead, NH. These two companies is where I was going to bet the farm on getting me where I needed to go. I have to say that being in the house more than two years now, both of these companies exceeded my expectation. Nicherson & Remick are in the spray foam business.  What better insulation is there than foam. If is is good enough for protecting NASA’s space shuttle, it is good enough for insulating my home. The second product is from Water & Energy and it is called a geothermal heat pump. I have a section of this site called “My Trades” in where I talk more about these companies and all of the trades on my project. I even provided contact information and websites where applicable. I found this article in the Seacoast Times, by Ken Bouchard that will expain geothermal in laymans terms and will give you insight into these amazing technology. This is one of the best descriptions I have ever read on the subject of geothermal and how it works.  Geothermal has been around for over 40 years. It is not a new technology. It is not mainstream, but in a very short period it will be. I am talking to people every week about the merits of geothermal heating and cooling.  If you have a choice, why would you choose anything else?  Take your time on this site and use this as a tool to learn about some of the great technologies that are available today.  I am by no means an expert, but I think I have put together a comprehensive site on my experiences in building this home.  I am more than happy to share it with you.  Please feel free to pass this information along and comment on my blog if you have the time.  I appreciate your interest and if I can help in anyway, please do not hesitate to email me with your questions.
